Fiona Hyslop is your Local MSP (SNP) for the Linlithgow Constituency and has previously served as a Lothians MSP since 1999.
Fiona is the Cabinet Secretary for Culture and External Affairs in the SNP led Scottish Government, prior to this she was the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Life-Long Learning and has been responsible for developing the SNP’s visionary policies in these fields.
It is Fiona’s strong belief that a good education and a solid foundation to life helps the individual as well as society. She has ensured that SNP policy is ambitious for the individuals concerned and for Scotland as a whole.
Fiona is also hugely enthusiastic about her role as Culture and External Affairs Minister, involving promoting Scotland and ensuring we make the most of our cultural assets and overseas links.
Fiona lives in Linlithgow, West Lothian with her husband and 3 young children. She enjoys swimming and the cinema and occasional gardening.
Fiona was born in Irvine, Ayrshire in 1964. She was brought up in her early years in England and returned to Ayrshire where she was educated at Alloway Primary School and Ayr Academy. She graduated from the University of Glasgow with an MA (Hons) in Economic History and Sociology. She completed a post-graduate Diploma in industrial administration at the Scottish College of Textiles. She moved to Edinburgh and joined the financial services company Standard Life where she held various positions in sales and marketing, latterly as a brand development manager. she was elected in 1999.
