Education

The SNP believes that children should have an equal chance to make the most of their lives.

We want to deliver progress for all of Scotland’s children by tackling early the things that hold them back later in life. That means tackling the economic causes of child poverty and prioritising early years education and smaller class sizes, so that every child has a chance to succeed.

We will encourage excellence and ambition in our schools so we can build a world class education system that encourages every child to test the limits of their abilities. We will also introduce a range of measures to improve our children’s health and fitness.

Education lies at the heart of the Scottish view of opportunity and achievement and an educated workforce is essential if we are to strengthen our economic performance. Access to further and higher education should be based on the ability to learn, not the ability to pay.
