Local Constituency MSP Fiona Hyslop has welcomed the announcement of up to £150m from the Edinburgh City Deal to be used to fund up to 5,000 new homes as part of the new Winchburgh Development.
Investment for the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal has come from both the UK and Scottish Governments and from contributions from local councils and universities.
Commenting, Fiona said;
“I am very pleased to hear that the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal will include £150m funding to deliver up to 5000 new homes as part of the new Winchburgh Development. This scale of housing investment should now help to secure the new secondary school so it is very important for the development of Winchburgh.
“The Winchburgh Development in West Lothian is one of the biggest developments in the Scotland, with plans for a new town centre with retail and food facilities, new health and social care facilities, new schools and a railway station. As well as increasing housing availability, this further investment will ensure more jobs come to the area, unlocking economic opportunities and growth.
“This marks an important step for the Winchburgh community and I am delighted that the Scottish Government has confirmed that this funding for the Winchburgh Development is one of its key commitments going forward.”
