Hyslop Welcomes Broxburn Academy LGBT Achievement
Fiona Hyslop MSP for Linlithgow Constituency has welcomed and congratulated Broxburn Academy on becoming the first school in Scotland to receive a silver LGBT Charter Mark Award.
“I am extremely proud of the students at Broxburn Academy for their dedication and hard work in achieving a Silver Charter Mark Award for their work in creating awareness for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender issues.
“School should be a place where pupils can feel safe and respected regardless of their sexuality and I am very pleased that their work has been formally recognised and that Broxburn Academy is the first school in Scotland to receive the award”
To achieve the award Broxburn Academy worked in partnership with the council, LGBT communities, West Lothian Youth Services and members of the LGBT Forum. The school carried out awareness raising activities and ensured that appropriate training and policies were in place across the school.
