Local MSP welcomes Scottish Government funding for and work of grassroots organisation tackling climate change in West Lothian

Local MSP for the Linlithgow Constituency, Fiona Hyslop, had an informative meeting with the West Lothian Climate Action Network (WLCAN) to hear about their work in the area. WLCAN works to create a sustainable future for West Lothian by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, promoting renewable energy, and educating the public about climate change. The Scottish Government have allocated a total of £5.5 million 2024-25 for Climate Action Hubs alongside a support package for delivery, with West Lothian Climate Action Network receiving £160,000.00. Hyslop welcomes £641,500 funding from the Government’s ambitious ‘Spaces for People’ Initiative. This funding will help normalize the increasing number of people walking or cycling in West Lothian. In partnership with Sustrans Scotland, the SNP Government has now awarded nearly £30 million to pop-up infrastructure projects across the country to encourage temporary active travel routes that enable physical distancing during lockdown. The fund aims to support the rapid increase in active travel rates in recent months and encourage more Scots to continue walking or cycling in the future – which in turn helps to manage demand on our public transport network.
