Hyslop Welcomes £2.2 Million Emergency Funding to Support Local Music Venues

Hyslop has welcomed the news that three music venues in her constituency will receive emergency funding support from the SNP Government. Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the music industry, the £2.2 million fund will provide grassroots live music venues with vital emergency funds to help prevent unnecessary closure. Local venues Dreadnought Rock, Midnight Breakfast Club, and Purple Orange Arts Venue were told this week that they will benefit from this financial support, which totals over £50,000 for the West Lothian music industry from the Grassroots Music Venues Stabilisation Fund.   Fiona Hyslop, who in her role as Culture Secretary was instrumental in setting up the Grass-Roots Music Venue Fund. Hyslop Highlights 34.9% More Households in West Lothian Connected to Superfast Broadband

Hyslop has welcomed new figures that show a huge boost to connectivity in West Lothian, thanks to significant investment from the SNP Government. According to the latest coverage statistics from Thinkbroadband, 97.9% properties in West Lothian are now connected to superfast broadband – a 34.9% increase from 2014 when only 63.0% properties were connected to internet speeds of at least 30Mbps. A report published this week from Ofcom also found that 172,889 properties across Scotland have been connected to superfast broadband in the last year alone. Despite connectivity and broadband remaining reserved to Westminster, Scotland is the only part of the UK that has guaranteed 100% superfast broadband access. West Lothian has been handed £344,400 to invest in projects designed to boost the attainment of local care experienced children and young people, The council will work with Chief Social Workers, and Directors of Education, to decide how this year’s funding will be used. Hyslop welcomes the announcement from NHS Lothian that 24/7 paediatric services at St. Johns can resume this autumn. NHS Lothian will reinstate paediatric services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from October, to enhance the care already provided to children in West Lothian. The details were agreed by NHS Lothian board members at their meeting on Wednesday 12th August. This means that inpatient paediatrics will be extended from functioning four nights a week, to seven days and nights by October 19th, 2020.
