Following a visit this week by the First Minister John Swinney, to the charity Play Works in Broxburn this week, local MSP for the Linlithgow Constituency, Fiona Hyslop, has highlighted new Scottish Government support for parents in West Lothian to increase their incomes and reduce the burden of everyday costs.

Commenting Fiona said:
“The Scottish Government have been clear that eradicating child poverty is their driving mission, and this work has been essential in providing much needed support to families across West Lothian.
“I was pleased to see the First Minister visit the Play Works in Broxburn on 11th March, an excellent charity within my Constituency, which supports local families and gives children a safe place to play in their community.
“Following this visit, the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Shirley-Anne Sommerville, announced in the Scottish Parliament on Thursday 13th March, more than £111 million is being committed to updated plans to eradicate child poverty through Bringing Hope, Building Futures.
“This plan which includes £20 million investment in the new Whole Family Support Third Sector Fund, £11 million to support parents to access skills and education and delivering a national breakfast club offer for primary school children, will build on the work of the Scottish Government by reducing the cost of living, helping increase incomes received through work and social security and helping children to thrive.
“I am proud to see the Scottish Government taking these steps to give children across West Lothian a future free from poverty.”
