Carers of West Lothian to help shape Social Security System
Fiona Hyslop hosts West Lothian Stakeholder Meeting

The Carers of West Lothian have been invited to feed in to Scotland’s first Social Security system after local MSP Fiona Hyslop wrote to the Cabinet Secretary for Social Security, Angela Constance to request that West Lothian have the chance to host a session focussed on their consultation, ‘A New Future for Social Security in Scotland’.

Fiona said;

“As an organisation who are used to dealing with the benefits system and understand what works for their staff and clients, it is very appropriate that the Carers of West Lothian be involved shaping Scotland’s first ever social security system.

“This meeting will give key stakeholders in West Lothian the opportunity to have their say and learn about the important new powers coming to Scotland and I am pleased to host and attend the meeting to hear the discussions first hand.”
Cabinet Secretary, Angela Constance added,

“We want to build a fairer social security system that treats people with dignity and respect. When we set out our guiding principles for social security, we said that we would put the user experience first, and that our system would be designed with and for the people of Scotland.

“We are determined that our new social security system is built to support those people who need it most. This crucial involvement from people with direct experience of receiving social security payments will help make sure that we get it right.”
