Fiona Hyslop Highlights Local Repair Shop

Fiona Hyslop MSP for the Linlithgow Constituency has visited the Linlithgow Community Development Trust (LCDT) to see first-hand the inspiring work of their Reuse, Recycle, Repair Workshop, part of the Trust’s wider commitment to sustainability and community empowerment.

Hosted at the EH49 Hub in the heart of Linlithgow, the Linlithgow Repair Shop offers residents the opportunity to bring in household items—from small electricals and furniture to toys and textiles—for repair by skilled volunteers. The initiative encourages a shift away from throwaway culture, helping reduce waste, cut carbon emissions, and promote a circular economy.

During her visit, Ms Hyslop met with volunteers and staff to learn more about the workshop’s impact and the Trust’s broader climate action efforts, including their ambition to make Linlithgow Scotland’s first Net-Zero Town.

Speaking after the visit, Fiona Hyslop MSP said:

“The Linlithgow Community Development Trust is an excellent example of grassroots climate action. Their Repair Shop not only helps reduce waste and emissions, but also builds community resilience and skills.

“It was great to meet the hardworking volunteers and I was particularly impressed by the practical support they offered to local residents. I am pleased to support this initiative, to champion local climate action and the drive to net zero.”
