Hyslop Commemorates First World War

Constituency MSP, Fiona Hyslop attended two commemoration services at Glasgow Cathedral and at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh to mark 100 years since the beginning of First World War.

Fiona commented;

“At Monday evening’s (4th August) Vigil Service at St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh I was honoured to read an extract from Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s Sunset Song about the war, and earlier to attend a very moving service at Glasgow Cathedral.

“From now until the end of 2018, scheduled events across Scotland will allow us to continue learning about the lessons of the First World War of 1914 – 1918. By reflecting on the devastating events that took place across every community in Scotland, we can ensure that the brave soldiers who fought in one of the world’s most brutal conflicts shall never be forgotten.”
