Hyslop Issues Phone Scam Warning

HYSLOP ISSUES PHONE SCAM WARNING

After receiving complaints from constituents, Local MSP Fiona Hyslop has issued a warning that people in West Lothian may be falling victim to a phone scam.

Callers pretend to be from a computer company and claim to need to fix the computer in your home. They then direct you to a website where they can gain remote access of your computer, gaining further access to your bank details and personal records.

Ms Hyslop said;

“I would like to draw attention to this phone scam that appears to be targeting West Lothian.

“I am in the process of writing to local pensioners groups and having notices displayed in public places so that all my constituents are aware of this scam.

“You should never allow anyone you do not know or trust access to your computer or anything else that may contain sensitive information. I would advise people who are receiving similar phone calls to hang up the phone as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information should contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
