Local MSP Fiona Hyslop Visits Mill Garden Centre

Local MSP for the Linlithgow Constituency met with the McIndoe family at the family run Mill Garden Centre in Armadale on 27th July.

The Mill Garden Centre in Armadale is a highly successful independent, family-owned business who grow a wide range of trees, shrubs and plants in their adjacent nursery.

The McIndoe family have been operating a nursery on the site since 1900, beginning with a soft fruit farm and growing some vegetables. The present owners, Joe and Peggy McIndoe, have diversified the business into growing a range of high-quality plants and the Garden Centre is now run by their children Colin and Kathleen.

Commenting after the visit Fiona said:

“I was pleased to meet with the McIndoe family who own and operate the Mill Garden Centre which you can find at the end of Mill Road in Armadale.

“Joe, the owner of the site shared with me the history of the Mill which previously operated on the site and how the family have developed the Garden Centre and adjacent nursery over the years.

“I also spoke with Kathleen and Colin who run the Garden Centre and heard how they adapted to Covid by moving their products online, taking orders by phone and email and delivering orders to customers. I was also keen to hear how Brexit has impacted the family’s business and the associated challenges they are facing.

“While at the Centre it was great to see the wide range and high-quality plants, trees and shrubs on offer. Such is the quality of the trees, shrubs and plants many customers travel from far and wide to the Centre to purchase as the Mill Garden Centre is the only major independent nursery between Edinburgh and Glasgow. The Mill Garden Centre has also recently added a café making for a great day out for locals and travelling customers alike.”
